2、 of Functional Stylistics, this thesis reconstructs a text cohesive pattern typically for poetic-analysis and approves its applicability through a practical analysis of the famous poem of Ode to the West Wind, composed b

3、y Percy Bysshe Shelley, an outstanding English poet in the 19th century. This thesis adopts the methodology of theory elaboration and case study. The first two chapters introduce Shelley’s life histories and the characte

4、ristics of his works, and generally review the recent studies on the poem Ode to the West Wind. The third chapter is the theoretical basis of the whole thesis. The writer presents the development of text cohesion first,

5、including the cohesive theories of the British linguists Halliday and Hasan, as well as the studies of cohesion from some Chinese scholars – Hu Zhuanglin, Zhang Delu, and Yu Xueyong. After that, a new cohesive pattern fo

6、r poetic-analysis is reconstructed from the theories previously discussed. Then, in the next two chapters, the external and internal cohesive features of the poem Ode to the West Wind are fully investigated. After the in

7、vestigation, the writer finds that the new constructed text cohesive pattern is beneficial for the objective and systematic study of poems. Furthermore, through the practical analysis of the poem Ode to the West Wind, th
