5、ed light, fringes proportional to the stress state were observed. Faster cooling improved the residual stress state in the injected preforms. The improvements were both in magnitude, as represented by the frequency of fr

6、inges and consistency, as represented by the improved symmetry of the fringes. Lower pressure in the mold also aided in improving the residual stress state. Reducing the pressure needed to inject was accomplished by incr

8、ods. It involves the melting of a given thermoplastic resin and subsequent fixed shaping and cooling of the molten plastic via predetermined molds. Historically, residual stress was ignored when reviewing injection mold

9、performance. Here residual stress was an important factor in determining what mold improvements were significant. Preforms and mold components. For the highest speeds in bottle packaging, preforms are required. Bottles a

10、re blown from the preforms. Preforms are generally injection molded Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET). PET is easier to recycle than HDPE and results in a clear high food quality container. There are three major component

11、s to preform molds.? Cavity? Thread Splits, or Neck Ring? CoreThe Cavity forms the external surface of the preform. This remains stationary throughout the molding process. Thread Splits form the threads, or finish, on th

12、e preforms and open and close on the core during and after the molding process. The Core forms the preforms inner surface and then carries the finished preform out of the cavity once the preform has cooled.Birefrengence.
