1、Objective To study the expressions of Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and cyclooxygenase-2 in transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder (TCCB) and analyze their correlation with the biological behavior of the t

2、umor. Methods The expressions of VEGF and cyclooxygenase-2 in 68 cases of TCCB and 10 cases of normal bladder tissue were detected by streptavidin-peroxidase immunohistochemical method. Results VEGF was negat

3、ively expressed in normal bladder mucosa. The positive expression rates of VEGF were 23.07％ ,58.62％ and 84.61％ for G1, G2 and G3, 43.75％and 77.77％ for Tis～T1 and T2～T4 tumors ,respectively. The positive expression rates

4、in three groups with different histological grading in TCCB showed significant difference(X2=14.1, P＜0.01),and the difference was great significant as well in two different clinical staging(X2=8.29, P＜0.01);The express

5、ion of VEGF in recurrence group and unrecurrence group was 78.94％ and 40.00％,respectively, and the difference was significant (X2 =10.77, P＜0.01). COX-2 was negatively expressed in normal bladder mucosa. The positive exp

6、ression rates of COX-2 were 15.38％ ,55.17％ and 80.77％ for G1,G2 and G3, 37.50％ and 75.00％ for Tis～T1 and T2～T4 tumors ,respectively. The positive expression rates in three groups with different histological grading in TC

7、CB were significantly different (X2=15.27,P＜0.01),and the significant difference was found as well in two different clinical staging (X2=9.73, P＜0.01);The positive expression of COX-2 in recurrence group and unrecurrence

8、 group was 73.68％ and 36.67％, respectively, and the difference was significant(X2=9.40, P＜0.01).The expression of VEGF in TCCB had a close correlation with that of COX-2(r=0.55, P＜0.01). Conclision The positive exp

9、ression of VEGF and COX-2 are closely related to the tumor-cell grade, depth of invasion and recurrence .Both the expressions of VEGF and COX-2 may be used as parameters for assessing the malignancy and recurrence of TC
