3、r location, the analysisprocess is divided into qualitative selection of candidate regionsand quantitative calculation based on GIS environment. Thenthe main database tables are designed to meet model calculatingneeds. T
4、he analysis process and steps are also expoundeddetailed in the article. It is proved that GIS technology can makeup lacks of traditional mathematics models, and it is operableand practical by applying GIS to logistics d

6、ween supplyingand demand in logistics network, and it plays a crucial role inlogistics system. A distribution center is located suitably or notwill directly effect on the efficiency and serving quality of thewhole system
7、. Many scholars have discussed the modelingissue of logistics distribution center location from differentpoints of view, and the models mainly are those, such asalgorithms of mathematics programming, multi-ruledecision-m
8、aking, heuristic algorithm and simulation and soon[1] . And most of those have been validated by instances.The objective functions of those models usually are to maketransportation expense and fixed investment less in lo
9、cationselection [2]. The distances among road network nodes areusually presumed to be linear distance when calculating978-1-4244-2013-1/08/$25.00 ©2008 IEEEtransportation expense in the models. Sometimes, even if th
10、elinear distance is transferred into mileage of highroad, railwayor other traffic and transportation network by introducing ascale factor in the models, a larger error is always existedwhen comparing with the factual dis
11、tance [3]. In fact,distribution center location is a complicated decision-makingprocess, and an optimal location of the distribution center isoften decided synthetically by many factors. The candidateregions of distribut
12、ion center are always assumed to be existedalready or be disposed simply in traditional models, which arealways not agreed with facts.Influence factors of logistics distribution center locationare discussed firstly, and
13、then the function and significance ofGIS technology are analyzed in this article. Further, thelocation process of logistics distribution center is divided intotwo steps: the one is to select some candidate regions byqual
14、itative analysis using many spatial analysis methods onGIS environment, and the other is to extract an optimal regionfrom the candidate regions ~uantitatively by mathematicsmodel. The analysis process and steps are expou
15、nded detailed,and the database tables are also designed to meet the needs ofquantitative analysis. It's proved that GIS technology canmake up lacks of traditional mathematics models, and it'soperable and practica
16、l by applying GIS to logistics distributioncenter location.II. ANALYSIS ON INFLUENCE FACTORS OF LOGISTICSDISTRIBUTION CENTER LOCATIONThe common location models are always divided into fourstages: data preparing, influenc
17、e factors analysis, comprehensiveinfluence estimating and location selection analysis [4], and analysis3007information. GIS is also a high technology which integratesgeography, geometry, computer science and all kinds of
18、application objects together. GIS technology has a strongerpower to integrate data from different sources together andanalyzing spatial data powerfully, so it's plays a significantrole in the field of spatial decisio
19、n-making.Functions of GIS technology in logistics distribution centerlocation can be described as followings:decision-making model of Multi-distribution-center andMulti-variety-goods as a reference, which is described in
20、reference [7]. And the main database tables are also designedto meet model calculating in the first stages when preparingand handling data.Selecting Candidate Regions QualitativelyIn first stage of selecting candidate re
21、gions qualitatively,the analysis steps are described as followings:1) Collect information and build databaseThe main contents of attribute tables corresponding witheach layer are also designed, and those are elided here.

24、 location closely should be collected and disposed on GISplatform, such as the map ofurban road network, map ofurbanland assessing, map of urban land use, map of urbanland-value, map of resource network distribution, map
25、 ofclientnetwork distribution and so on. All those spatial data and theirattribution information are stored and managed inobject-relation spatial database integratively.b) Road network stored in GIS has a topology relati
26、onshipwhich describes current roads factually, and the topologicalnetwork can be used to calculate the true transportationdistance accurately, and such errors caused by supposition oflinear distance in traditional mathem
27、atics model can beavoided.e) Most of GIS software provide with secondarydeveloping function. Traditional mathematics models can bemodularized into GIS environment, and GIS platform offersdata supporting, graphical interf
28、aces and human-computerinteraction interface when calculating quantitatively.a) As an information platform, GIS is used to integrate allkinds of information and factors together in decision-making.d) GIS expresses object
29、s abundantly and visibly, and it canmake the process of locating and analysis result visible byusing thematic map and visualization technology.c) GIS provides with many spatial analysis methods, suchas spatial network an
30、alysis, spatial buffer analysis, spatialoverly analysis and so on. All those methods can be chose tosolve different problems. For example, buffer analysis andoverly analysis can be used to select candidate regionsprimari
31、ly, and spatial network analysis can be used to select anoptimal path in distribution route planning, which can maketransportation expenses lower.IV. PROCESS OF LOGISTICS DISTRIBUTION CENTER LOCATIONBASED ON GIS ENVIRONM
