2、nce Sukhothai period until nowadays, overseas Chinese’s role still related with Thai economics, Thai social, and livelihood of Thai people. “Letters from Thailand” is the first novel that shows the facts of daily life,

3、 livelihood, and feeling of oversea Chinese whom immigrated into Thailand. It’s also the first novel which written about overseas Chinese in Thailand. The plot was straightforwardly compared and criticized Thai people

4、 and Thai social. So it’s very renowned in earliest stage of published and still popular until today. In Thailand, there are some thesis concerns with this novel, but nobody was studied this novel in-depth. So this the

5、sis aims to analyze and criticize the novel “Letters from Thailand”. It’s studied in all around points, e.g. novel’s outline, author’s attitude, writing form, behavior of main characters, social reflect, and the power

6、 of this novel in Thai social and Thai-Chinese literature. Moreover this thesis also study and survey about the reader’s opinions that nobody do it before. From the study, it was found that this novel is the new trend i

7、n Thai literature social. The outline, plot, and form of this novel are identity and never appear in other novel before, and then it makes this novel more interested. Besides, the study revealed that the novel was sho

8、wn the history and the changed of the social in each period, and also suggests many problems that happened in the social, like the culture shock, roles and prejudice of overseas Chinese in Thailand, weak and strong poi

9、nts of Thai people in overseas Chinese view. Furthermore, the novel was pointed out that Thai author should dare to innovate the new thing. Then there are a lot of novels which concern with overseas Chinese in Thailan

10、d afterward. Thus, we can call that “Letters from Thailand” is a valuable thing. It’s a model of overseas Chinese novel in Thai literature side. This novel’s not only entertaining the reader, but also gives the moral
