4、tomarilydesignatedinANSIStardB16.5as300400600900lb.The1970editiondthesliponflangesflackofdemaddeda150lb.classcoveragefsizesNPS12throughNPS24.Additionalcoveragewasalsonecessitatedbytheadventoftheuseoflinepipeofgradeshavin
5、gminimumspecifiedyieldstrengthhigherthanthe52000psimaximumcontemplatedatthetimeofinitialdevelopmenttherefestillthinnerwalls.Insomeinstancesthisadventwidenedthedifferentialbetweenthetensilepropertiesoftheflangesteelversus
6、thatofthematingpipesteel.Thisinturnnecessitatedgreaterflexibilityintheionofhubdimensionssothatvariouscombinationsofmaterialstrengthflangedimensionscouldbeutilizedtosupplytheflanges.Section5onFlangeDesignwasintroducedatth
7、ispointisoneofthekeyfeaturesofthisstard.The1972editionincludedthecoverageofblindflangesinallpressureclassesclarificationoftextrequirementsfbetterunderstingusageunderthemediverseconditions.The1975editionexpedthesizerangea
8、bovesizeNPS36.ThedrillingtemplatesftheClass150flangesoftheNPS38largersizescontinuedthepreviousphilosophyofadoptingthedrillingtemplateoftheClass125ofANSIStardB16.1.HoweverthedrillingtemplatesoftheClass300flangesoftheNPS38
9、largersizesdidnotcontinuetheadoptionoftheClass250ofANSIStardB16.1drillingtemplatesndidtheNPS38largersizesofClasses400600900continuetheextrapolationofANSIB16.5drillingtemplatesinsteadthesedrillingtemplateswerenecessarilyd
10、esignedmecompactlybecauseoftheincreasedloads.WhiletheseflangesaredesignatedbythecustomaryANSIStardClass150300400600900theiruseisalmostentirelyconfinedtocrosscountrytransmissionpipelinesatatmospherictemperatures.Theflange
11、shavebeendesignedprimarilyfuseattheircoldratingswhichconfmtotheANSIStardB16.5ratingsof1000Fareintendedprimarilyfattachmenttorelativelythinwallhighstrengthcoldwkedpipehighstrengthbuttweldingfittingsinpipelineserviceattemp
12、eraturesof4500Flower.HoweverflangesfgedofothermaterialsarecapableofpressuretemperatureratingsasspecifiedinSection2.1.The1980editionwascreatedtobringthedocumentintoclosereditialalignmentwithANSIB16.5.Howeveroutofrecogniti
13、onofthesuccessfulexperienceofthepipelineindustryroomtemperatureratingswereextendedto2500F.Deratingabove2500Fwasacceleratedsuchthatthe4500FratingsarethesameasANSIB16.5.Usersarecautionedthatwhentheseflangesareboltedtovalve
14、susedattemperaturesbetween1000F4500Ftheratingofthevalvewillnotbeashighastheflange.The1990revisionofthisSPwasrequiredtoupdatethereferencedstardslistthemetricequivalents.The1991revisionofthisSPwasrequiredtoaddblindflangema
15、chiningguidanceflatfacerequirementsprecautionarynotesaswellasupdateofreferencedstards.The1996revisionaddsatablewithpermissibleimperfectionsinflangefacingfinishclarifiesAnnexAdesigncriteria.Therewereseveralerratacrections
16、madetoreferencestootherstards.DimensionaltoleranceshavebeenchangedwherenecessarytoconfmwithASMEB16.5B16.47.The2006revisionwasrequiredtoaddmetricequivalentunitsnotchtoughnessrequirementnewboltingmaterialsupdateofreference
