3、nt Member, IEEEAbstract — Reliability of distribution systems is an important issue in power engineering for both utilities and customers. Power distribution reliability is closely related to individual component reliabi
4、lity. In this paper, the reliability as measured by certain count indices, mainly the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI), is quantified in terms
5、 of individual distribution component reliability. This is an extension of previously reported results. The value of the approach lies in distribution expansion planning in which a radial system may be networked with a v
6、iew to improve reliability. The effect of inserting Distributed Generation (DG) in the distribution system is studied in this paper. The result of this insertion may be that the number of outages increases because of the
7、 possible failure of the DG hardware. Two new indices for this application are proposed: the ratio of DG energy to interrupted energy and the ratio of DG operating duration to outage duration.Index Terms — distribution e
8、ngineering, reliability, SAIDI, SAIFI, repair time, distributed generation resources.I. ELECTRIC POWER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM RELIABILITYReliability is a key issue in the design and operation of electric power distribution
9、systems – especially in view of sensitive digitally controlled loads. Contemporary loads are often digital in nature, and these loads are frequently sensitive to interruptions and, indeed, many other power quality proble
10、ms. The customers themselves are perhaps becoming more sensitive to interruptions due to the possibility of industrial manufacturing interruption, commercial loss of sales, and residential nuisance. Sophisticated control
11、 systems may 3minutes or hours in one year. The SAIFI gives information about how often these interruptions occur on the average for each customer. Both indices have been widely used in North America as measures of the e
12、ffectiveness of distribution systems [2, 16]. Note that in [9], the connection between the count indices is addressed – and this area is revisited in this paper. Both indices are carried out (i.e., averaged) typically ov
13、er a one year interval; SAIDI is usually expressed in hours; and SAIFI is unitless. There are many related indices of which the following are a sampling:CAIDI = Customer Average Interruption Duration IndexTypical central
14、 ranges of these indices in North American distribution systems are:SAIFI = 1.1 to 1.9SAIDI = 1.5 to 3.0 hASAI = 0.9996 to 0.9998 (i.e., roughly 3.5 to 4 ‘nines’)CAIDI = 0.9 to 2.6 h.Note that the ‘number of nines’, some
15、times denoted as N9, is related to a probability q as,N9 = -log(1-q). (1)There may be some circumstances for which the 8760 hour year might be replaced by some other figure, for example the number of hou
