4、ideo coding standards are made throughout the world. Of them, H.264/AVC, which is mainly developed at present and available to the low code rate, is the new-generation vedio compression standard with much higher compress
5、ion rate, better IP and wireless internet communication. Because of these advantages, H.264/AVC is more and more widely applied in the field of data video communication and memory. Additionally, in recent several decade
6、s the speedy development of DSP technology provides the stage for realizing the complex new-generation video coding system, also, it is more flexible to realize vedio coding through DSP. TI Corporation develops a new di
7、gital media processor named TMS320DM642. It is a special DSP chip with the advantages of high basic frequency, multi-streamline, high parallelism and special video signal processing instruction and so on which make TMS32
8、0DM642 become one of the popular DSP chips in the field of video prodessing. The paper is developed basing on the design and realization of video compression system of the multi-media processor TMS320DM642. Firstly, it
9、introduces the development of DSP and video compression technology and analysize on the basic principle and key arithmetic module; secondly, the system design plan is proposed basing on the multi-media processor DM642. T
10、hen it emphasizes how to realize the hardness principle design and software design. Next, the paper discusses some methods how the codes are tanplanted and optimized according to the structure and characteristics of DM64
