2、d literature. Whenthis term which is borrowed from the western literary theory begins to be accepted by theChinese contemporary literary theory and criticism, its semantic meaning and implicationhave been changed in the

3、context of the new-period of China. During the introduction andthe academic controversy about “Inward turning”, this term ambiguously contains two coretopics: the subjectivity and the literature ontology, which means tha

4、t the “Inward turning”has undertaken the dual tack of ideological enlightenment and aesthetic enlightenment in thenew-period of China. From western literary theory to Chinese contemporary literary theoryand criticism, th

5、e acceptance and variance of “Inward turning” are closely related to thegenealogies of culture, ideology, knowledge, and literature in 1980s. In these genealogies,the enlightenment discourse about subjectivity, literatur

6、e ontology, and the pure literature arethe most important ones for “Inward turning”. So, if we study “Inward turning” throughputting this term into these 3 genealogies, we will have an insight into the trace of thenew-pe

7、riod literature’s inner construction and development. At the same time, just like theconstruction of the new enlightenment discourse which takes the modernization as its coreand the pure literature discourse which concen

8、trates on returning literature to its aestheticnature has its advantages and disadvantages, to the construction of the Chinese new-periodliterature, “Inward turning” also has its non-negligible contribution of insight an

9、d itsinevitable deficiency of blind-sight. So, it is essential to reflect on the historical practice ofthe Chinese new-period literature through taking “Inward turning” as the entry point.Keywords: Inward turning; Chines
